Travel Schedule
by Bernd Felsche
Purpose
A schedule is one of the tools for planning a journey.
It provides an overview of how and where time will be spent,
at least at the planning stage.
When to Schedule
Sketch up a schedule right from the beginning of your planning.
Start with a rough calendar covering the planned time of travel.
This lets you refer to it as required, especially when coordinating
visits with others that you may be meeting while travelling.
Building and Maintaining the Schedule
Don't over-fill the schedule.
You will need some time both to yourself and to allow for unplanned
events during your journey.
Give yourself a bit of slack.
List the places that you want to visit and organize them so that you
don't have to back-track very often.
Refer to maps and transport timetables as necessary.
Then spread them out over the available time of your journey.
You may want to visit some places at particular times;
e.g. fairs and festivals.
So put them into your schedule first and see how you can fit
everything else into the gaps.
Communicating the Schedule
If you need to coordinate your travel plans with others, especially
those abroad, then you may be able to use some of your free web
space to advantage.
Everybody's on the Internet! Right?
Put the schedule on a page not linked from your home page so that
burglars won't have it as easy to plan a visit to your home.
Better still, put it on a password-protected page and only give the
password to people who you can trust.
Finally, before departure, make sure that everybody who needs to
know, has a copy of your schedule.
Not everybody's on the Internet, so send postcards or letters
to those who aren't connected to the digital universe.
